DIY Extended Rack Height

I am going to build an extended rack for a higher or 2nd cooking level in a large BGE. How high above the felt line should that rack be if it is a 14" rack? or 16" rack?
What I am thinking about is using fire brick splits above the fire ring for the BGE 18" rack to sit on. Then put a smaller diameter rack on SS bolts or more fire bricks above that.
The fire bricks are 4 1/2 high. So, the top rack would be a little more than 9" above the top of the fire ring. Is that too high?

Open your dome and stretch a tape measure across the inside to see where 14 and 16 touch, easy, peasy!

I bought a 17 inch Weber grate from Home Depot and used SS bolts that raise the grid 4 1/2 inches above my BGE grid.
Works great.__________ Chris
