On-Monitor Screen Hotter Than Off-Monitor

I was just playing with my new Infrared Thermometer and decided to see if there is a difference in monitor screen temperatures between ON and OFF.

Sure is: OFF (actually Sleep) is 84° and ON is 99°.

I guess that helps to explain why it is warmer in my office.

I will definitely check again when the monitor has been OFF for a few hours.

But first things first, it's happy hour at our favorite Mexican restaurant. $2 margaritas.

    Follow-up...

I checked the now Totally OFF monitor and it had dropped to 80°

So this test shows that an ON monitor adds 19° of heat to the immediate area.

Now I understand we were in the lab so late the other nite and why the scale up didn't work, there were no margaritas.
