Cleaning Grates in Oven?

My self cleaning oven can turn any cook on or spilled organic matter into a fine dust in an hour. Has anyone tried cleaning your cooking grates in a self cleaning oven on the clean cycle?

    cleaning them?

I will not eat oysters. I want my food dead. Not sick, not wounded... dead.

Other than a quick pass with a wire brush can't say I've ever cleaned them

18 inch diameter large grid will not fit in either of my ovens. ovens are not deep enough. I do use the oval grid from the adjustable rig in the oven to create a raised grid set-up when roasting chickens, grid over foiled pan. Guess some habits are hard to break.......LOL.
