New Source for Fire Grate and Nomex Gasket

Let's face it, for what we pay for a new LBGE, it should come ready for some super cooking performance. For new owners, it usually has some problems.

Problem: When I got my LBGE 3 years ago, the felt gasket was falling off BEFORE IT CAME OUT OF THE BOX! Second problem: The cast iron drain grate faking as a fire grate clogged on a regular basis.

My solution: The Mother Ship kindly sent me a Nomex kit for N/C, but I still had to get some 77 Adhesive and do the installation: what a mess. As far as the fire grate goes, I buy expanded metal sheets at HD, cut them to the same circle-size as the grate, bolt two together on top of each other, and just give it a shake before each cook. Replace about every year, it gets used about 5 times a week.

New solution: Dave does a super eval of a new stainless grate here:

and they also have adhesive-backed Nomex here:

I have no affiliation with any of this, and have not used either product. But, IMHO this should come as standard equipment on a LBGE for what we $$$pay$$$. See'in as it doesn't right now (hint, hint, Mother Ship), at least it is available for some additional greenbacks. That's my story and I stick'n to it... ;)B)
