Smithfields BBQ?

As a side note, I asked some advice on good bbg in the myrtle beach area and got some nice messages. I forgot to mention that I stopped by Smithfields outside of Willmington, NC and got a sandwich. I gotta say I enjoyed it! It was odd because it resembled a McDonalds and I didn't see a cooker nor smelled bbq wafting in the air. Just wondering if anybody else has eaten there or enjoys it. Thanks.

The reason it looked like a McDonalds is because it's basically the McDonalds of BBQ joints of North Carolina. Way too many better BBQ joints in NC to go there more then once.

After 35 yrs in NC, IMHO, Smithfield BBQ has the best fried chicken I've ever eaten. Their BBQ pork is standard NC fare. There are certainly small NC BBQ places serving far few people which are highly rated but no place serves more people decent NC BBQ than Smithfield.

Dang, I'd better get to one and get my one visit in, lol! I've never been to one, believe it or not.

Like MBR said the chicken is great, but I have to say the bbq is mediocre at best.
