I have had a MAPP for about 8 years and my solution for the sparks was to get a metal cap from a lamp store about 5 inches in diameter with a 1/2 inch hole in the center and then take the tip off to allow the nozzle to pass thru the hole, next replace the tip and used a small hose clamp to keep the cap snug against the tip. Mesquite does spark some.

That's a serious big boy toy.

Outrageous--
I think you will enjoy egging on a whole new level. Knowing without a doubt that the lump is lit and the burn has taken hold is worth the expense of the torch. I went the weed burner route and have never looked back. It definite improved my egg experience. -
I love mine but, have not been able to purchase the same size replacement bottle. No big deal I simply get the skinner yellow bottle.
