Last time I saw the price of an infra-red thermometer it was double this. I may actually get one now

Does infrared read the internal temp or just the surface temp?
-
Just the surface temp Richard
-
Richard got started early today.
-
Just the surface Richard.
I ordered this one on Friday.
I plan to call them back and ask if I can change my mind and get this other one they have.
Here is the one I ordered.

Here is the one I want instead. This one comes with an internal probe.

What advantage does one garner from a surface temp only? As far as the food is concerned?
-
Similiar thread as two days ago started here...

It got to 45 today and melted most of the white stuff. :(
My happy hour started at 3:30 -
Amazon one is 932° F
-
please post pics of the steak. I am curious about this process.
As for the reasons - I want to hone my pizza making skills and I think that this will help me because I am a retard.
Also I have an old crappy house and I need to make some upgrades soon and this $47 (with free battery!) could save me a few thousand depending on what I do. -
Your partaly right Ron. This is the one dirty is looking at.
Temperature range: -30º to 500ºC (-20º to 932ºF), Distance to spot size: 10:1 calculated @ 80% energy
Here is the one I ordered.
-67°F to 536°F, (-55°C to 280°C)
Here is the one I have changed my mind to. It comes with a probe to stick in the food as well.
IR:-76°F to 932°F, -60°C to 500°C
TC:-76°F to 1999°F, -60°C to 1400°C -

you're so right! Me bad! I had composed that response over several minutes during time outs etc while otherwise glued to the Bears/Eagles game today and was running back and forth between rooms. Honestly there were no adult beverages clouding my thinking - just lack of concentrated thought.Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

I have been using this one and it works very well:
http://www.amazon.com/IRT0421-Non-Contact-Infrared-Thermometer-Targeting/dp/B0017L9Q9C/ref=sr_1_cc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1291006110&sr=1-1-catcorr
very similar to the other, previously mentioned, from amazon. In fact I had trouble choosing. Use it to hone in on pizza making - surface temp of stabilized pizza stone vs. cook time. -
holy crap...the last 3 reviews of the people who gave it 3 stars are absolutely priceless.
Made my day!
