I am getting ready to put together my table, and have drawn up some plans in PowerPoint, saved as png for uploading here. I'd love to hear what you all think. I modified Whiz Flash-Burn's plans to accomodate my desire for an 8 foot table to house one medium and one large. I'm using Cypress wood. All pieces are 4"x7/8", except for one piece on the foot at the left end, to attach the fixed castors. At the right end I have swivel castors. I will need to be able to move the table, and with two eggs I thought I would have trouble lifting one end.

I've incorporated a different design for the support of the eggs, using 3 fire bricks set about 1" apart, to allow ventilation. They are supported by 3 cross-beams, which will be notched to hold them in place. The way they are positioned I'm going to be able to scrap the ashes out of the egg and directly into a bucket under the table. I've also made the table high enough to allow me to slide a 17" plastic storage bin underneath, where I will hold my charcoal.

I might start putting this together tomorrow, if I can get to it. Looking forward to hearing your input.

My first order of business is to build a table for my egg. I plan on going by the Naked Whiz's plans, but was curious if anyone has used pine for their table? Most I have been seeing are using cypress or oak. If a pine table was stained, sealed and kept on concrete (under a cover when I don't forget), how do you think it would do?
Must have been a good boy last year. Add to that the wife is very pleased with the cooking done on the Large BGE, she got me a small for xmas to go with the large she got me in 2008.

There were no real plans, just a picture of a similar table I saw on the NW site. The table was built with sturdy axles & solid wheels to make it easy to roll in front of back door for easy access. The height lines up exactly with the large BGE table so the 2 can be aligned up for a sort of out-door-kitchen setup. At least as much out-door as Michigan allows.

Here's the big guy and little lady.

I have has an egg for seven years. I love it and have had no problems. I finally broke down and bought one of the tables that they show on the website. I liked it at first, but I continually had problems with it. It also didnt look very good on my patio. As I got fed up with the table, I looked around the internet for something better. I ran across the "Deck Kitchen" and thought it looked good. I was a bit skeptical, but decided to call the guy. He came out the next week and installed my new table at a price almost a grand under what a lot of other guys were asking for plastic units, not even wooden like the one I got. Love my table and havent had any issues. I would suggest to and egg owner.

Hi all!

I am getting ready to build a metal and wood table for my XL. The frame uprights will be 4X4 metal tube and the cross members will be 2X2 (may do 4X4 as well on these)All of this will rust naturally. The top and bottom shelves will be wood, I am thinking about using a finish grade of 3/4 Plywood stained and sealed.

Anyone done one like this (PIC's)? I was also thinking about extending the uprights and adding a small cover. The cover will be made from corrugated steel (this will rust also). My concern with the cover is the chance of a windstorm overturning the whole setup as it will be on wheels. Living in Southern Arizona we get some pretty good windy Monsoons at times and a few Micro Bursts. I could set the poles into concrete(no Wheels)but think that may not be the best idea.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

[/b] Ok, so I'm a newbie here on the forum. I bought my husband the Big Green Egg for Christmas, but I couldn't keep it a secret because I couldn't get it out of my vehicle, so I had to tell him. I thought he'd be upset because it cost a pretty penny, and times are hard for us financially, but I thought it might take his mind off a lot of the negative hardships going on and he could but that energy into enjoying The Big Green Egg. I also managed to have the manager of the store to throw in a few extra's, which was nice. So now he is so happy to have his gift before Christmas has been on the Egghead forums looking up all kinds of things. He has cooked New York steaks which turned out so yummy, and smoked a pizza. I didn't think smoking a pizza would turn out good but wow, it sure did. He has a boneless leg of Lamb that he wants to cook and we haven't seen many recipes, so now I'm asking you experts out there for recipes for boneless leg of lamb....

I live in No. Calif. and am looking forward to building a table for my XL BGE. I see most people on this forum have been using Cypress, Cedar or Red Oak. All of these seem to be difficult/special order out here on the west coast. Has anyone used Redwood?

I decided on a rainy weekend to build my table. Got the whiz's instructions and had the table together that day. Then came the finishing which took me many many weeks. But at last it's done.
The materials were 2x4 and 2x6 for frame with Southern Yellow Pine for the two decks. A piece of travertine tile on top and slate tiles for egg surface.
The finish is one coat of stain (Early American), three coats of spar urethane on all surfaces with six coats on top.
Next item will be to add a light somehow.

Also, I now have a nest and cover for a large that I'd love to sell. If you know of anyone in the market point 'em my way.

Uncovered

Covered (so I can protect those six coats of spar urethane )

Table with storage unit - quickly realized I needed somewhere to keep all of my accessories, charcoal, etc.
