I would think you need 5 butts that are about 8 lbs. raw. That will yield around 20-24 lbs. cooked which means about a 1/4 lb per person. That is plenty if you have enough sides. If you have big eaters and enough room might as well do 6. MCN hit the nail on the head.

Now that we have a view counter, its obvious that there are a lot of you out there not contributing to the forum and I'm on to you.

I personally don't see the need for it. I just did a 15 hour cook a d the temp stayed at 250 the entire time. It did creep to 280 at the end, but not worth it in my opinion. When I first bought my egg I wanted a temp controller. The price kept me from buying one. This forced me to learn how to control the egg the old fashioned way.

I just had my application approved this week. So I have been lurking for a while. New to the egg and have had 3 successful cooks so far. I am really enjoying the forum and learning a lot. Tonight I reverse seared some steaks. Turned out great. Learned it from you guys. Thanks!
